Mandatory gear correction

There was a typo in the Mandatory Gear list. It listed a “Type II PFD” instead of the more common “Type III PFD”. A Type III PFD is what we are requiring for the Impossible Panther AR, and no, sitting on it doesn’t count.

Watercraft will be provided for teams on the Sport course. Teams on the Challenge and Long courses will be allowed to provide their own canoes or kayaks, or they can arrange for rentals locally through God’s Country Outfitters (call Christian at 704-985-3020 for details and to make reservations).
No penalties will be assessed for the use of kayaks vs canoes. The course will likely involve lots of getting in and out of the boats, which is faster in a canoe. There will be some portaging required. The potential for damage to fiberglass and kevlar boats on the water will be great enough to encourage caution. In the end we think these conditions and factors will average out the difference in speed between boat types. If your team is bringing it’s own boat(s), instructions for where to drop them off before the race will be provided close to race day. Rentals through GCO will be delivered for you. GCO is offering boat shuttle services back to the finish area for teams who bring their own boats. The price for this shuttle service is $10 per boat, payable to GCO.
